topIntegrate tv-player with Autodesk 3d Studio Max

Integrating tv-player with 3d Studio Max is unfortunately not as easy as with Maya. However tv-player provides seamless integration in 3d Studio Max with a macro script which has been tested with 3d Studio Max Version 7.

topInstallation of support files

If 3D Studio Max integration was enabled during tv-player setup you can skip this section.

tv-player 3ds max integration

The 3ds Max macro script and the depended icon files have always been copied in a sub folder named 3dsmax which can be found in the installation directory of tv-player, i.e.

"C:\Program Files\tv-player\3dsmax"

To install seamless integration you need to copy the content of that folder into the root of your 3ds Max installation directory.

"C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds max"

Please use Windows Explorer or your favorite file management tool for this task.

If you are not really sure how to do this, please reinstall tv-player and make sure that 3D Studio Max integration is enabled (see picture above).

topAdditional steps inside 3d Studio Max

After installation a 3ds max macro script named "tv-player.ms" has been installed into the "script/startup" folder of 3ds max. This script is executed each time when 3ds max starts.

Now, all you need to do is to customize your 3ds max user interface to access the script commands. In the main menu of 3ds max select "Customize / Customize User Interface".

3ds Max "Customize User Interface" dialog

  • Make sure you have selected the "Toolbars" tab.
  • Select Group: "Main UI"
  • Select Category: "tv-player "

In the "Action" list 3 tv-player commands appear.

  • tv-player: Simply starts tv-player.
  • tv-player Preview: Starts tv-player and loads the last 3ds max preview.
This action assumes your last preview is an AVI file (previews\_scene.avi).
  • tv-player Rendering: Starts tv-player and loads the last 3ds max rendering.
This action gets its settings from the Render Scene Dialog.

Drag + drop these commands to existing toolbars of your current 3ds max user interface. You can also create a new toolbar by pressing the "New" button and then drag + drop the 3 action to the new toolbar.

Please refer the 3d Studio Max help for detailed instructions on how to customize the user interface of 3ds Max. Feel free to improve the provided macro script if required. But please send back your changes, so every tv-player user can share your updates.
