In order to archive the best possible playback performance, AnimPlayer loads the images of a sequence into a memory cache which belongs to the main system memory (RAM). This is done in a separate background thread so you can step through the sequence while loading into the memory cache. The maximum available cache size is 2GB.
Note, because random image access for movie formats like AVI can be very time consuming, AnimPlayer always loads a movie always in start to end order. The user interface is locked while loading movies. |
System memory is a shared resource and you never can have enough. AnimPlayer offers you full cache control. You can interactively set the amount of free memory for other applications in Mega Bytes (MB). Simply goto the Cache menu and change the "Keep memory free" setting.
For your convenience the In/Out points can be matched to the current cache settings.
- use In/Out to cache in order to play back the currently loaded images only
- use In/Out to memory to set the InPoint to the current frame. The OutPoint will be set to the available memory, so AnimPlayer will load exactly the amount of frames which fit into free memory.
This is very useful if you have a long sequence which doesn't fit into free memory. Using this option let you watch such a sequence at least in parts.
|
AnimPlayer offers you full cache control with an easy to use interface. By default the selected sequence will be automatically loaded into cache. You can turn off this behavior in the Preferences DisPlay
tab.
- to clear the current cache click the [X] button left to the RAM Gauge at the Infobar or press [DEL].
Clearing the cache will release all allocated system memory so you need to reload the cache for smooth playback.
- to load your current sequence into cache click the green [>] button right to the RAM Gauge at the Infobar or press [INS].
The green cache indicator below the Seekbar shows you which frames of your sequence are already loaded.
- while loading the green [>] button is replaced by the [[]] button, so to stop a current cache loading thread click the [[]] button right to the RAM Gauge at the Infobar or press [END] or [ESC]. Loading into cache can always be interrupted with stop [[]] and later resumed with the green [>] button.
- if you are in
true color display mode you have also control of the cache while scrubbing. If you scrub in the Display-Area images will be buffered in the cache where as scrubbing with the seekbar slider doesn't cache any images.
