refresh rate

topmonitor refresh rate

The refresh rate of your display will directly influence the prediction and smoothness of AnimPlayer’s playback.

AnimPlayer is able to playback with correct speeds for Film, PAL and NTSC independent of the refresh rate of your monitor, but this may result in playback which is not particularly smooth and precise.

Palyback speed warning dialogBy default AnimPlayer will warn you if this will happen. For certain technical reasons, very smooth playback must be synchronous to your display’s refresh rate. This means on the other hand that for each refresh rate setting, only certain discreet playback speeds for smooth playback are available.

Click here to get a list which shows the complex relationship between refresh rate and possible smooth playback speeds.

Unfortunately some LCD monitors only support one dedicated refresh rate (in general 60 Hz).

topchoosing the right refresh rate

On multi-monitor configurations AnimPlayer can synchronize only to one monitor at the time and it is recommenced to configure all monitors with the same refresh rate to minimize display artifacts.

If this is not possible please keep in mind that the 6 presets for smooth playback are different for each monitor.

You should choose the refresh rate based on the nature of standard you are working with. Below are the recommend refresh rates for each standard.

  Film PAL NTSC
speed 24 fps 25 fps 30 fps
refresh rate 1 72 Hz 75* Hz 60 Hz
refresh rate 2 120 Hz 100 Hz 120 Hz

If you plan to use HD material please choose the lower "refresh rate 1" for best playback performance.

tophow to set the refresh rate

Open the Display Properties Dialog and press the [Advanced] Button in the bottom right corner to open a new dialog. Now select the [Monitor] tab.

monitor settings
Your screen may look slightly different.

Please note that not every monitor supports each recommended refresh rate. Some higher rates are only available on lower screen resolutions.

Also note, some graphic drivers also provide their own utilities which give faster access to the refresh rate settings.

topwarning!

If you are working on a CRT monitor, a refresh rate lower than 75 Hz is not really healthy for long term usage. You may get tiered sooner or a headache.
